Coffee Table Renovation

Many moons ago, as expectant parents, Mr. Greenhab and I decided that we must get rid of our coffee table with sharp corners in favor of something softer, rounder and more baby-friendly. We ended up with one of those leather (pleather?) storage ottomans from Tarjey that has served us rather well over the past 5 years.

The kids have used it as a bench, stool, bed and launching pad. For us it's been a footrest, a desk for my laptop and a place to hide things when people are coming over. Alas, said ottoman has begun to crack and tear, drinks are forever spilling because the surface is really too soft to sit a glass on and, to be honest, I was really just ready for something new.

I found this solid (read: really heavy) wood coffee table at our local thrift store for $20 and decided to paint it to match the end table I found next to a dumpster last year. {blush} After sanding and priming and painting until I thought my arms would fall off, I ended up with this...

You can see the other table in the background here, as well as the new fabric I used for the doors on our bookshelves.

Now I need to make some curtains. What color do you think? I always (obviously) lean towards browns, greens and tans, but our house is feeling so monotone these days. And does anyone know an upholsterer? I'd love to get that antique chair reupholstered with the floral fabric you see on the throw pillow.

It looks awesome! I have a similar table with that kind of finish but about 10x more varnish and my arms are ready to fall off!!

Thanks so much for linking up to Free for All!
