Can we talk socks?

I got a new bag of socks for Christmas (really, try not to be jealous!) and I've already had to relegate most of them to the rag pile due to holes. They were a generic brand, so I wasn't particularly surprised when they started to become threadbare at the three month mark, however, I've also had Champion and Danskin brand that haven't lasted longer than six months.

I can assure you that I'm not out running marathons each and every day. As someone who works from home though, I pretty much wear plain ol' sweat socks every day around the house, without shoes. And I may do the occasional Tom Cruise / Risky Business impression...but nothing that should really wear socks out this quickly.

Does anyone have a sock recommendation that can stand the rigorous daily activity of a work-at-home mom / housewife?

No advice but I'd sure love to hear! I've got the same problem plus my kids are 10x worse than mine.

Aw, man - I keep checking back on this post to see what solutions people have and so far - nothing! I, too, do not have an outside job and have been fighting the sock war. I recently bought a store brand, after standing in the sock aisle for honestly 20 minutes debating with myself about the more expensive name brand's so called quality. I finally decided that my experience showed that expense and name brand had no bearing on quality and just bought the el cheapo pack! My socks usually wear out on the bottoms. I guess I could start wearing more serious athletic socks...I will keep checking back here...

Here are some of the comments I got on Facebook regarding this post. Hope it helps!

"Unfortunately I don't have any advice. I use Champion brand (from Costco) and they last me a really long time. In fact I use them everyday, work out in them, etc and have yet to get holes in my socks. I go barefoot, slippered or flip-flopped around the house however, so maybe instead of a better sock, try a different method of padding around the house?"

"I really like these Adidas ones I got at Kohl's. They were inexpensive for a name-brand, though. I'd never spend a ton on socks. I like my socks to be low and thin, and these fit my specifications while being pretty tough too."

"I wear slipper socks around the house. I get them on sale at B&BWs. they have grippers so I don't slip"

"I am very very hard on socks! I'm in them all day and I have dogs and I don't clean house...bleh. So far the most durable has been Hanes with pink toe & pink heel (...don't know what makes the difference, but the other Hanes kinda suck. just sayin')"

I just realized something this morning...the best socks I have did not come from the box store. They came from TJMaxx. There are Gold Toes and Champion Gear Athletic socks. They have survived many sock seasons! I think I need to get back there...I've stayed away b/c I always spend too much $ on stuff I don't need! Not to mention it's located next to a Target!! But the socks just might be worth it...

In the winter, I live in leather-soled slipper socks at home. (I hate wearing regular socks b/c they collect pet hair!) Got mine at LL Bean 3 years ago. Don't see them there but here is a link to another site that sells them:

I wouldn't wear them out in the rain or to go out in public, but I do wear them to get the mail and wear them through carpool lane at school pickup.
